mixtape monday – trapped in the closet

October 5th, 2010

Closet songs. We’ve all got them. Songs we won’t admit to loving, but yet we sing our hearts out when we hear them. This week is all about confessing. I got a great response from people on this one, so we have an awesome mixtape.

Let’s open up that closet door and let our dirty little songs out… but first.

Now, on to the music!

mixtape monday – show and tell

September 27th, 2010

For this week’s mixtape monday, I asked people to submit songs that they have recently discovered, and would like to share. I got some awesome responses and have put together the whole list. Thanks guys!

For next week, I think we’ll keep the collaboration thing going but switch up the theme. How about we all jump right in and get some things off of our collective musical chest. I’m talking about admitting the songs that we love, but are ashamed to admit it. Next week – closet songs! (and yes, it can definitely be “Trapped In The Closet”)

mixtape monday – self titled…

September 20th, 2010

For this week’s theme, I once again reached out to the facebook community and got some awesome responses. I have been unfortunately a crippling combination of lazy and busy so I didn’t get to post the settled theme and get song suggestions… I’m sorry.

I really want to include everyone for next weeks theme, with a “team mixtape”. I’d like people to submit songs that they have heard recently that they have really loved. Songs that they are so happy to have discovered, that they’d like to share them with everyone else. So join in!

With that being said, I took one suggestion of “songs with Monday in the title” and ran with it. Here’s the self-titled mixtape monday:

mixtape monday – 13.09.10 – verbs

September 13th, 2010

So it’s been quite awhile, but we’re getting mixtape monday back up and running!

The theme for this mix is songs that have a single verb as the title. I reached out for some inspiration on this one, and got some pretty awesome recommendations for tracks from folks on Facebook, so thank you folks!

Enough blabber… On to the music!

mixtape monday – 07.26.10 – songs from films

July 26th, 2010

Based on the results of last week’s poll, the theme for this week’s mixtape is “songs from films”
Just picking songs from soundtracks is too easy, so I had a few rules to follow when making the song selections:
1) The song has to be part of a scene and played in the environment of the characters.
2) Bonus points if the characters reference the song or sing it.
3) Bonus Bonus points if the band/artists themselves are performing in the scene.

So based on your requests, and a few of my own, I give you the film songs mixtape and the list of where each song appeared.

1) “Tequila” by The Champs – Pee Wee’s Big Adventure
2) “Woo Hoo” by The 5 6 7 8s – Kill Bill
3) “Temptation” by New Order – Trainspotting
4) “Looking Out My Back Door” by CCR – The Big Lebowski
5) “Dry The Rain” by The Beta Band – High Fidelity
6) “You’ve Lost The Lovin’ Feeling” by The Righteous Brothers – Top Gun
7) “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen – Shaun Of The Dead
8) “No Tears” by Scarface – Office Space
9) “Too Young” by Phoenix – Shallow Hal
10) “Time After Time” by Cindy Lauper – Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion
11) “Tiny Dancer” by Elton John – Almost Famous
12) “Down In Mexico” by The Coasters – Death Proof
13) “Johnny B Goode” by Chuck Berry – Back To The Future
14) “Beyond The Sea” by Bobby Darin – A Life Less Ordinary
15) “Moon River” by Audrey Hepburn – Breakfast At Tiffany’s
